Gibson’s electric bass guitar debuted in 1953 (this model was later called the EB-1). With a wide variety of models ranging from violin-shaped and double-cutaway solid-body models to semi-hollow-body models, it has gained the support of many bassists.

This latest arrival is an EB-3, a two-pickup model from 1969 onwards, featuring new parts and a cool “Slotted head” design.

body
The total weight is approximately 3.5 kg. The familiar SG-shaped body is made of mahogany. The original cherry color has faded considerably, giving it a rich, aged look. A wooden stop tailpiece has been added behind the bridge to increase string tension. It shows signs of use commensurate with its age, such as weather checking, the addition and relocation of the finger rest, dents, belt buckle marks, and tarnishing of the metal parts, resulting in a wonderful vintage instrument condition. There are signs that a different type of jack plate was once installed, but it has now been replaced with the same type as the original. The front tone knob has also been replaced.

neck
The neck, featuring a distinctive slotted headstock, is made of three-piece mahogany. The fingerboard is rosewood. Weather checking around the headstock, dents on the back of the neck and headstock, and tarnishing on the metal parts give it a lovely, aged look, similar to the body. The tuners are fairly evenly wound and function well. There is some slight wear on the frets and nut, but playability is good. The nut width is 38.1mm, a narrow neck profile. The neck has a relatively clean grip, with a slightly V-shape feel.

[Electrical System]
This EB model features a two-pickup configuration with a 4-way pickup selector, two volume controls, and two tone controls. The control components, including the pickups, are in their original condition. Based on the thick, old-school EB sound produced by the neck-mounted humbucker, you can enjoy a well-balanced tone overall.
