ALTER EGO, an Italian electric upright bass brand, has earned high praise for its realistic playability and sound.

The “Baby Ego” features a sleek shape with a solid maple body and neck, yet boasts high playability thanks to a body frame designed to feel natural even when switching from a double bass.
By incorporating piezo pickups under each foot of the bridge saddle and amplifying them with the company’s DUAL preamp, you can enjoy a rich and warm tone.

Furthermore, the “adjustable action with new AE neck system,” which is also the origin of the name “Baby Ego,” is a refined version of an old Ampeg idea. This simple yet rational mechanism allows for string height adjustment by changing the neck angle, enabling players to freely set it up to their liking.

By removing the frame and storing it in the dedicated soft case, it becomes compact and very convenient for transport.

This model gained popularity in Japan in the early 2000s and was sometimes recommended as a superior alternative to the popular domestic silent basses of the time. This particular instrument is believed to have been made in the 2010s and is a rare limited edition with a black finish.

There are some dents and scratches on the body and neck, but there is no severe damage such as major abrasions or paint peeling, and the instrument is currently functional. The screws used to secure the frame on the treble string side have been replaced with different screws of the same specifications. A dedicated stand for standing performance is not included.
