The Telecaster debuted as the Broadcaster in 1950 and has since reigned alongside the Stratocaster as a signature Fender guitar model. It’s a classic electric guitar, with not only Fender’s original model but also models inspired by it being produced by various manufacturers.
This latest arrival is a 1968 model with a popular rosewood fingerboard and is in player-reviewed condition with some parts replaced.
body
The overall weight is approximately 4.1 kg. The body is made of ash. The body is from mid-’68 or earlier, featuring an extra cavity extending from the front to the controls, and a stamped date can be seen under the pickguard. The blonde color shows some moderate fading, weather checking, paint peeling on the body sides, dents and scratches, and tarnish on the metal parts, but the guitar retains the charm of an old guitar, with a nice glossy finish and in excellent condition. The front pickup area shows the recessed mark from a previous humbucker pickup. The pickguard has been replaced with a later one.
neck
The neck is made of maple. The fingerboard is made of rosewood. It’s nice that the neck is still in the lacquer stage. There’s some weather checking, especially around the headstock, and a few dents on the back of the neck, but like the body, it’s in relatively good condition. The tuners are slightly inconsistent in their winding, but they function well. The nut has been replaced and the frets have been filed and adjusted in our shop, ensuring good playability. The headstock thickness is 15.3mm. The nut width is 41.5mm. The neck has a relatively sturdy shape. The smooth feel of the back of the neck, typical of a vintage guitar, is an appealing feature.
[Electrical system]
The controls are current-wired for pickup mix. They include a 3-way pickup selector (neck/mix/bridge), volume, and tone. The pickups are hand-wound by Josefina Campos, master pickup winder at the Fender Custom Shop, and are notoriously hard to come by. The neck pickup has been replaced with a Twisted Telecaster model, while the bridge pickup has been replaced with a Broadcaster model. The high-pass filter capacitor has been removed. This guitar boasts a clear, engaging tone and excellent playability, thanks to its vintage materials.
