About Lon Bernardel:

Born in Paris, Lon Bernardel (1853-1931) comes from a family of well-known violin makers. He was the son and student of Ernest Auguste Bernardel. At the age of 16, Lon spent a year in Mirecourt learning under Justin Derazey before returning to Paris to join the family firm, the Gand & Bernadel Frres firm. In 1899, he started his own business at 40 rue du Faubourg Poissonnire, working alongside his son, Lon Bernardel II. His work earned him a bronze medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle.
